Overlapping Regions Logic Pro – 3 ways to Deal with Overlapping Regions

Overlapping Regions Logic Pro – 3 ways to Deal with Overlapping Regions

Here’s a great tutorial on 3 ways to deal with overlapping regions Logic.

Overlapping regions can cause objects and tracks in your arrangement to act sporadically, which can be frustrating especially when you know that you have placed or edited a region exactly where you would like it. Logic Pro provides various ways of dealing with region overlaps and in this article we will take a look at three of these.

All of the methods used below come with their own merits, it is up to you which method suits your particular requirement best.

The three methods work as follows:

  • Method 1 adjusts the region lengths
  • Method 2 creates a new track including any plug-ins on the original channel
  • Method 3 enables a smooth transition between regions using the cross fade tool
Method 1
Step 1:

Click on one of the overlapping regions in the Arrange Page to select it.

Step 2

In the Arrange Page menu bar, click on Region>Remove overlaps

Step 3

The resulting overlap shortens the end point of the first region in the overlapping sequence, leaving the second region in tact.

Method 3
Step 1

(i) Press the ESC key on your QWERTY keyboard to select the Crossfade Tool
(ii) Using the Crossfade Tool, Click and drag over the area of the overlapping regions you wish to blend. The wider the crossfade you draw, the slower the blend.

Step 2
The resulting crossfade draws a volume curve down from the first file and up from the second region, giving a smooth transition. This works well for eliminating clicks or obvious changes.

  1. Another great way and probably the easiest out of them all is to
-Click on the drag menu in the arrange window
    -Select & Click No Overlap

This will basically cut every region automatically when you have a region overlapping another.

    Quick and easy!
